About Welton Manor Golf Centre

Welton Manor Golf Centre is a beautiful golf course located on 120 acres of stunning land, comprised of an 18-hole golf course with tree-lined fairways, a golfing range, a putting green, The Falconer bar, two function rooms, a fishing lake, and a Caravan site. The whole foundation principles and ethos of the club was to provide affordable golf to everybody, with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The Falconer has always been open to non-members and families alike with a relaxed dress code, steering away from the old traditional, members-only clubhouses.

Welton Manor Golf Centre began back in 1995 as a successful farm diversification by Charles Ottewell and his two sons, Dave, and Andrew Ottewell. The business is currently run by Dave along with Hayley, and greenkeeping team of Kev, Dave, and Mark. It began as a 9-hole course before being extended into an 18-hole course in 1998 along with the construction of The Falconer bar and restaurant, in the year 2000. The Falconer received its name in honour of Charles Ottewell’s love of falconry, and he was a member of the British Falconry society, who enjoyed Charles’ whit and hospitality whilst hosting Falconry days on the farm. The success of this business venture is a credit to Charles Ottewell and his family, who purchased the Manor Farm land on which the golf course is built on, in the mid 60’s with his father, Thomas Ottewell. His accomplishment and memory, as the founding president of the club is also honoured with the annual Charles Ottewell trophy, a prestigious competition held around May time.

We have a main club section which is supported with the management and members association. This group operates in place of a formal committee for the best interest of the club and its members, and we hold informal meetings on a monthly basis. Members are encouraged to primarily email Hayley, about any matters of concern or to raise any queries, so that she can respond as quickly and efficiently as possible, often without the need to wait until the next Association meeting. More information about the background of the association can be found here.  The main club holds weekly competitions, league matches, and friendly matches. Ladies are encouraged to enter the club competitions and friendly matches. Club Captain, Jamie Dyer, has elected St Barnabas to be his charity for the year, which the main club actively fundraises for through competitions and social nights.

The Ladies section are a friendly and welcoming group of 25 playing members that is growing from strength to strength. They have a monthly Saturday social and supported by lady members. Non-members are welcomed with open arms by the Ladies section, and we encourage you to participate in a Ladies Saturday social for a day of golf and a catch up with tea and cakes by the fireplace to warm up! With the Ladies section improving, we are aiming to expand into couples competitions, club competitions and even team competitions!

The Senior section is a fantastic asset to Welton Manor Golf Centre. With over 70 members they form an integral part of the club. The senior section host weekly competitions on a Wednesday morning, as well as friendly matches with other clubs which is followed by a meal. Their section has a monthly journal and newsletter which is fantastically produced by the seniors committee. Seniors Captain, Dave Stewart has elected Samaritans UK as his chosen charity for the year, and there will be many fundraising events for the section to raise money to a very important cause. If you are interested in joining the Welton Manor Seniors, you can find their website here, or contact the management team who will point you in the right direction – it only costs £5 to join the Seniors section for the year.

Welton Manor Golf Centre boasts a 10-bay floodlit driving range with distance markers and target pods for you to perfect your golf. This is open to both members and non-members with golfing experience. There is a putting green located adjacent to the clubhouse.

In addition to the picturesque golf course, The Falconer bar offers a wide variety of drinks, including draught beer and ciders, bottled alcoholic drinks, spirits, non-alcoholic drinks, hot beverages, and bar snacks. There is an 85-inch smart 4k Ultra HDR LED TV and an additional HD projector screen that showcases both BT and SKY sports. If you would like a specific sport/programme on, we can show that for you, just give us a call! We also have a fireplace you can warm up by after a round of golf. The Falconer has two function rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs with dance floors and a fully stocked downstairs bar. We host all sorts of events in these rooms throughout the year, including our Club presentation night, wedding receptions, birthdays, christenings, funeral wakes, meetings, and corporate events. Unfortunately, we had to close our kitchen during the Covid19 pandemic, so at this present moment we cannot offer inhouse catering. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own food, use outside catering for a buffet, or have a food van/hog roast outside. We have plenty of contacts available upon request. The upstairs function room boasts a balcony with panoramic views of the golf course, and downstairs we have a patio overlooking the 18th green, pond, and fountain with plenty of tables which is always popular in Summer! The stunning scenery of the golf course provides a perfect backdrop for any photos.

Adjacent to the golf course, we have a coarse fishing lake stocked full of tench, carp, bream, rudd, and many other species. You may purchase a fishing day ticket from the golf reception either on the day or in advance. The fishing lake and camping facilities are located 500 yards past the golf course on the left heading toward Hackthorn. Situated by the fishing lake is a caravan site with both electric and non-electric pitches. The caravan facilities include water and waste disposal, and changing rooms, toilets and a bar situated nearby at the golf reception. The site is ideally located 6 miles North from the historic city of Lincoln and is a short drive from market towns like Louth and Market Rasen. It is also located nearby the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds.

We are a small, family run business with a fantastic team of loyal, hard-working, and enthusiastic employees both in the golf reception and on the golf course. Dave Ottewell, son of Charles Ottewell, has been working here incessantly since the golf course development and has been instrumental to the development of the club which has gone from strength to strength. He has always been dedicated to continuing the legacy of his dad, and the business is his passion. Dave is always on hand, 7 days a week and is always open to new ideas and developing the business and improving the facilities.

Head greenkeeper, Kev, has been here since the beginning of the golf course, previously working on the farm, and has worked with Dave for over 30 years, compiling years of knowledge and experience together when it comes to maintaining the course. Kev is joined by greenkeeper Dave, who has been a part of the team for over 25 years, who also previously worked on the farm. Kev’s son Mark has joined the greenkeeping team, and all 3 of them work tirelessly to meet the expectations of our members, in sun, wind, snow, rain, and sleet. Kev specialises with the greens, and Dave with the tees and fairways – they’re a friendly bunch who are always out on the course so be sure to say hello to them when you see them! They continue to work closely with owner Dave in the planning and organisation of the course maintenance program.

Working in the golf reception and bar etc. is general manager, Hayley, who has been a valued member of the team for 22 years. Hayley has undertaken many general management responsibilities over the years including wedding coordinator, organising the kitchen and restaurant including working as a relief chef, office management, health and safety officer, welfare officer, and front of house etc. She is an invaluable and very loyal part of the team working closely alongside Dave, offering unprecedented support, dedicated to keeping the business going whatever difficulties have been encountered along the way.
